As a RoMS registered mobility scorer you gain access to a range of exclusive benefits designed to support your professional development, credibility and day-to-day practice.

You will receive an email with your login credentials to the members area

Complete a Theory Test

Within the members area; purchase the online Theory Test for £30 and complete all sections. On completion you will receive a Theory Certificate which qualifies you to take the Practical Test

Complete a Practical Test

The members area lists available Practical tests across the country. Register for a course. You will receive a Practical Certificate on completion which qualifies you to take the Calibration Test.

Ensure you complete the Theory and Practical and take the Calibration Test within 12 months. A failure to complete all parts within 12 months will require you to retake the Theory Test.

Take the Exam

The final step is to pay the £35 membership fee and take the final test where you will score the mobility of 25 cows presented on a series of video clips.

RoMS Standards

Members of RoMS are expected to uphold the standards of the organisation by adhering to the following principles:

1. ① The core value of RoMS is to improve the consistency, accuracy, repeatability and reliability of mobility scorers and their reporting of lameness.
2. ② Communication must be courteous and respectful at all times. Client confidentiality must be fully respected. Client confidentiality can only be broken with client permission or request, or if a discussion is occurring between two qualified professionals who are seeking to help the client or in the exceptional situation whereby you as a professional are witness to criminal activity and are required to provide a witness report or statement to the relevant authorities.
3. ③ Professional indemnity cover should be in place to a level that covers negligent advice or accidental injury to an animal through mobility scoring. Recommended levels of cover are dictated by herd size and animal value.
4. ④ Professional advice must be restricted to topics falling within professional competencies. Professional competency is defined by training and qualification. Poor advice falling outside topics covered by your training and qualification record could be viewed as negligent.
5. ⑤ CPD should be conducted to maintain competency. A record of CPD should be kept and made available if requested.
6. ⑥ Scorers must be able to accurately compile a mobility report for the purpose of:
   1. a Lame cow screening as part of early detection, delivered back to farmer on the same day, and certainly within 48 hours.
   2. b Benchmarking report within a time-frame which remains useful and relevant for the farm, typically within 7 days of scoring.
7. ⑦ Reports should use simple but accurate terminology, understandable by the dairy farmer and consistent with the National mobility scoring scheme, i.e. mobility score not locomotion or motility score; sole bruising not laminitis.
8. ⑧ Endeavour to apply mobility scoring principles to a high and consistent standard, and conduct regular calibration exercises to maintain consistency with other scorers, to uphold the standards of RoMS.
9. ⑨ Take biosecurity precautions to minimise the risk of transferring disease between farms or acquiring zoonotic infections.
10. ⑩ Operate in a way which is safe to you, cattle and others working around you.
11. ⑪ Be able to add value to mobility scorings by gathering extra herd data relevant to foot health within the limits of your competency, and providing this data to relevant parties agreed by the client.
12. ⑫ Reports must be an honest and accurate professional assessment of mobility score and lameness. Deliberate misreporting or fabrication of scores for the purposes of quality assurance is fraudulent, a form of false certification and could be in breach of the law. Concerns about deliberate under-reporting will be taken very seriously and investigated properly. Where scorers are found to be at fault, they will be removed from the register and asked to undertake further training to support improvement.
